An Endoscopic Brow Lift Boosts Those Drooping Eyebrows

One of the areas of the face most affected by age is the eyebrows. As we grow older, the muscles around our eyes weaken and this can cause our eyebrows to sag. Droopy brows can mar the beauty of your face and make you look years older than your actual age. A brow lift is a good treatment to correct sagging brows.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift

There are many types of brow lifts that plastic surgeons can perform. However, the minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift is one of the safest and most effective options. Here, an endoscope with a small camera and a light is used to analyze the tissues of the forehead and brow. The drooping tissues can then be resected accordingly.

Initial Consultation

First, Dr. Mandal will evaluate the patient’s brow and forehead to see if they are a viable candidate for the endoscopic brow lift. She will discuss the potential results of the brow lift with the patients at this stage. The areas that necessitate the brow lift may be marked, and a surgical plan will be created.

Anesthesia and Incisions

In most endoscopic brow lifts, twilight anesthesia is used to anesthetize the patient. Twilight anesthesia is a type of anesthesia that makes the patient semi-conscious. The anesthetic used here is a combination of chemicals including midazolam, fentanyl, propofol, ketamine, valium, and nitrous oxide.

The patient is in a state where they are aware of their surroundings but do not experience any pain or discomfort. This type of anesthesia is extremely safe and involves little to no complications.

Once the patient has been anesthetized, tiny incisions are made on the areas of the hairline marked by Dr. Mandal. This is less invasive than the single large incision made during the traditional technique.

Surgical Dissection

Next, an endoscope is used to see where the concentration of the optic nerves are around the eyebrows. The drooping tissues are dissected away from and around the nerves. Care is taken not to damage the eye at any time. The sagging tissues are removed, which causes frown lines and wrinkles around the eyebrows to disappear.

Muscles around the eyebrows may also be repositioned or lifted higher to improve the area’s appearance. Medical-grade sutures are then used to stitch up the incisions. Staples may also be used to tighten the skin and aid in repair.

Post-Surgical Care

There may be tenderness and discomfort after the surgery, but these will reduce in a few days. The patient is asked to keep their head elevated and avoid extensive eye and facial movements. Ice may be used to reduce redness and bruising.

A week after the procedure, the sutures and staples will be removed and oral pain management medication may be prescribed should the patient need it.

Results

The endoscopic brow lift is one of the best ways to improve the appearance of droopy brows. The number of frown lines and wrinkles around the brow will also be reduced, giving the face a youthful appearance.

Youthful Wrinkle-Free Skin Can Be Yours Thanks to Juvéderm

Do wrinkles, creases, and lines on your face make you look older than you actually are? While the formation of wrinkles and other signs of aging is a natural process, there is no denying the fact that they really do make us look older. Sometimes they may even start appearing in your twenties, when you’re supposed to be enjoying clear and smooth skin.

Premature aging is a very common problem. Thankfully, there is a simple and highly effective solution: Juvéderm.

What Is Juvéderm And What Does It Do?

Juvéderm is a type of injectable dermal filler, a cosmetic treatment that is injected into your skin. It uses hyaluronic acid as its base and is administered all over the world to combat wrinkles and other signs of aging on the skin.

Mostly, patients receive Juvéderm treatments on their faces, specifically on their cheeks and around their mouth and lips. Approved by the FDA in 2006, Juvéderm is among the most commonly administered non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States.

Juvéderm helps to fix the loss of elasticity in the skin and fill in lines, wrinkles, and creases around the nose and the mouth. It can also restore and enhance lip volume. Juvéderm Voluma, another type of filler in the Juvederm family of products, is specifically designed to contour your cheeks by adding volume underneath the skin.

What Is the Treatment Procedure Like?

Typically, a Juvéderm treatment session takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the condition of the patient’s skin and how many injections need to be administered. Juvéderm comes in a pre-packed ready-to-use sterile syringe. This makes the entire process very simple.

To minimize any chance of slight discomfort or pain, Dr. Mandal may apply a topical anesthetic cream to the area where Juvéderm needs to be administered so as to numb the region.

After this, the Juvéderm filler is directly injected into the areas on your face where wrinkles appear. This evens out all the lines and wrinkles in the area, giving you a more youthful look.

Juvéderm’s effects can be seen immediately after treatment. The results are also long-lasting, especially in comparison to other injectable products. The effects of Juvéderm typically last between six and nine months.

In addition, Juvéderm poses little to no risk of causing allergic reactions, since it is composed of biocompatible synthetic hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, where it attracts water molecules to maintain skin volume and to keep the skin healthy and moisturized.

Am I a Good Candidate for Juvéderm?

If you are not happy with the appearance of your skin and feel like age lines, wrinkles, and folds are making you look much older than your actual age, Juvéderm is ideal for you. You must also have realistic expectations from the procedure.

The age lines you see in the mirror don’t have to be permanent. Contact us today for your Juvéderm consultation with Dr. Anita Mandal, an experienced board-certified facial plastic surgeon.

When Is The Right Time for Ultherapy?

As you grow older, your skin – especially under your chin and around your neck – may become loose, saggy, and wrinkled. Even though this is completely natural, it is not the most pleasant experience and can cause self-confidence issues.

Having toned and youthful-looking skin results in an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Not only can this increase your self-esteem and confidence, it can change people’s perception of you for the better.

In the past, achieving this meant having to go under the knife. However, with state-of-the-art Ultherapy, no surgery is required. This treatment is a completely safe and non-invasive procedure used to achieve toned and youthful skin.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is one of the most sought-after procedures on the market. This technique can dramatically reduce the effects of aging on your skin by reducing wrinkles and lines. It is an effective way to combat signs of aging and retain your youthful glow.

Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to increase collagen production, resulting in tighter and more toned skin. Collagen is a protein found in different parts of our body, especially in the skin.

Many people tend to think that Ultherapy is a solution you should consider only when you are past a certain age, when your skin starts to wrinkle and sag. In other words, they consider Ultherapy only when they start becoming old.

However, the truth is that the first signs of aging appear on your skin even in your mid to late twenties. Many men and women see this in the form of lines on the sides of their eyes. These lines are known as crow’s feet.

How Do I Know If I am a Good Candidate for Ultherapy?

There is no “perfect” age group for the treatment or “right” time for it – wrinkles, lines, and loose skin can affect anyone at almost any time, whether they are in their mid-twenties, their early forties, or their late sixties.

So, if age isn’t a concern, what determines if you are suitable for Ultherapy? There are two important factors to consider before you sign up for this non-surgical ultrasound skin-tightening technique.

One factor is the overall health of your skin. You need to have good skin health before undergoing this procedure. The other factor is skin laxity. A good candidate of Ultherapy has mild or moderate skin laxity. If your skin is not firm or toned under your chin, around your neck, or around your eyes, you are a good candidate for this treatment.

Get In Touch to Learn More About Ultherapy

Ultherapy has helped a number of patients achieve the tighter and more youthful-looking skin they desire. If you feel that Ultherapy might be the right treatment option for your loose skin, the next step is contacting our office and setting up an informative consultation.

Dr. Anita Mandal, a skilled board-certified facial plastic surgeon, has years of experience with many aesthetic treatments and procedures. When you speak with Dr. Mandal, she will answer your questions, show you before-and-after photos, and walk you through the steps of the Ultherapy procedure.

Radiesse Creates New Structure and Builds Collagen

With aging, the skin changes in a lot of ways. There are many causes that lead to skin issues, including a reduction in collagen levels, loss of skin elasticity, loss of the skin’s ability to heal, and the appearance of fines lines and wrinkles.

With the right skin treatment, you won’t have to view aging as the enemy of perfect skin. Radiesse has established itself as one of the most popular non-surgical solutions to skin aging. Radiesse is a reliable skin-care treatment that can help you put an end to wrinkles and hollow areas.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a type of dermal filler that is known to naturally ease away and erase wrinkles and plump up the skin, making it look younger and flawless. If you start noticing lines above the mouth and at the corners of the mouth and nose, you can fill them with Radiesse.

If you feel that Radiesse would be a good option for you, meet with Dr. Mandal for a consultation. She will ensure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in the product. Once she identifies you as an ideal candidate for Radiesse, she will create a treatment plan and answer any questions that you may have about the product.

How Does This Dermal Filler Work?

The efficiency of a dermal filler depends on its active ingredients and the medium in which the main ingredient is integrated. It should be easily absorbable and acceptable by the skin.

Radiesse contains Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel. The product is injected into the affected areas of the skin. Due to the gel in which the microspheres are suspended, easier absorption into the skin is ensured.

The microspheres add structure and volume in the skin tissues, and new collagen is built in the region. Collagen helps the skin cells heal and repair. Damaged cells are replaced by fresher healthier skin cells.

The microspheres slowly disintegrate, but because collagen growth has been stimulated, the effects continue to show on the skin. For up to a year or longer, the skin is left looking several years younger and more radiant than ever before.

Other Advantages

Besides being a risk-free non-surgical treatment with practically no downtime, there are numerous other advantages to choosing Radiesse as a solution to skin aging:

• The product works by improving skin health and increasing collagen production rather than giving a quick fix or temporarily covering up the wrinkles. Given that the change happens from the inside, if you supplement the treatment with healthy diet and skin care routine, you can expect the results to last longer.

• The acceptance rate and the success rate have been found to be high in patients of various skin types and different age groups.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift Offers a Quicker Recovery Time and More

Stress lines appear on the forehead after years of making the same facial movements – it’s unavoidable. When a certain group of muscles is constantly used, lines appear as permanent furrows on the forehead. Apart from being the first thing a person notices about you, these lines can make you look unapproachable or perpetually angry; the same is true for sagging eyebrows.

Aging and stress tend to stay on the face no matter how many anti-aging remedies and diet changes you attempt. When all else fails, an endoscopic brow lift is an ideal solution. The endoscopic brow lift is an effective and permanent way to reverse forehead creases, lift drooping eyebrows, and revitalize your face.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift

Thanks to advancements in surgical technology, a brow lift no longer requires a continuous incision along the length of the hairline. With the endoscopic brow lift, smaller and shorter incisions can be made on the scalp. These tiny incisions give access to the underlying tissue.

What is the advantage of smaller incisions? Smaller incisions make the procedure less invasive, and because of this, it requires a shorter recovery time.

What to Expect

An endoscopic brow lift is a simple and precise procedure that offers excellent results. The patient is first administered with twilight anesthesia in order to make them more comfortable and free of any pain during the procedure.

Short incisions are made just behind the hairline of the scalp, and an endoscope is inserted to provide Dr. Mandal with real-time imaging of the tissues. An endoscope is a small tube with a light and a camera. It transmits images to a monitor, and this serves as a guide during the surgery.

The skin on the forehead is lifted and repositioning of the brows is carried out. Along with this repositioning, drooping skin is tightened and the muscles responsible for the visible furrows are relaxed as needed. The incisions are closed using surgical sutures.

Are You a Suitable Candidate?

Any individual who is unhappy with their drooping brows and forehead creases is an eligible candidate for a brow lift. A thorough assessment of the suitability for a brow lift is offered by Dr. Mandal during a consultation.

A prerequisite is that the candidate has elastic skin and is a non-smoker. A smoker’s skin is prone to wrinkles and lines, and so getting a brow lift will not be as aesthetically beneficial for smokers.

The Recovery Process

Recovery from the endoscopic brow lift is straightforward, provided you bear a few important considerations in mind. Doctors recommend that you arrange for a family member or close friend to drive you home after the surgery.

A degree of bruising and swelling is expected during the recovery process. Resting in an elevated position alleviates forehead tightness and swelling. The recovery process is accelerated by wearing a compression garment for the prescribed time.

Patients who have undergone the endoscopic brow lift share that they were able to resume their normal schedule after a few weeks. Once healing is complete, the forehead appears naturally younger and free of wrinkles. The brows look naturally lifted.

The Revolutionary Laser WhisperLift Is a Gentler Facelift

One of the major downsides to aging is the associated sagging of skin in the neck and jowls. The excessive drooping of skin makes people self-conscious and embarrassed. They feel like they can’t wear their favorite necklace or dress and feel uncomfortable about the idea of going out and having a good time.

The facelift was once considered to be the only option to correct the sagging of skin in the neck and jowls. A traditional facelift surgery lasts a couple of hours and involves incisions and downtime. What this meant is that patients who could not afford to take a long period of time off from their work could not opt for a facelift surgery.

For those looking to address sagging skin without undergoing a traditional facelift, the Laser WhisperLift may be an ideal option.

What Is a Laser WhisperLift?

The Laser WhisperLift is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to correct the sagging of the neck and jowls. The main difference between the traditional facelift and the Laser WhisperLift is that skin tightening in the traditional facelift is achieved through removal of excess skin. With the WhisperLift, this tightening is instead performed through collagen simulation under the skin.

During the WhisperLift, after providing local anesthesia, three to five minute incisions are made under the earlobes and chin fold. For correction of the lower face, small incisions are made in the natural folds of each ear.

A laser tip is then inserted through the incisions to break up the fat under the skin and tighten the sagging. This leaves the patient with smoother skin and a more youthful appearance.

Sutures are placed afterwards to close the micro incisions. A dressing will be placed, and this will remain on the area for a few days. It will be removed during a follow-up appointment, as will the stitches.

The majority of the patients who undergo the Laser WhisperLift can resume their normal routine within a short period of time as per the recommendations of Dr. Mandal.

The improvements will be visible immediately after the surgery. Over time, as collagen is produced naturally in the skin as a result of the Laser WhisperLift treatment, natural improvements will appear.

The Benefits of the Laser WhisperLift

• Laser WhisperLift is a minimally invasive surgery that only requires three to five tiny microincisions. They’re much smaller compared to the longer incisions required for a traditional facelift, and as a result, patients will require a shorter recovery period.

• Because only a few small incisions are made, local anesthesia will be sufficient to complete the surgical procedure. General anesthesia will not be needed.

• The time taken for the Laser WhisperLift is considerably shorter than the time needed for a traditional facelift.

• Because the improvements are achieved using collagen simulation, the results look quite natural.

Take the First Step

Patients with a busy lifestyle that doesn’t allow for long healing periods find the Laser WhisperLift to be an excellent option. It offers patients a solution for neck jowls and sagging skin with minimal downtime required.

Dr. Anita Mandal, a well-respected board-certified facial plastic surgeon, has years of experience performing a number of aesthetic procedures. To schedule your Laser WhisperLift consultation and get started, contact our office today.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid Is the Key to Sculptra’s Effectiveness

Sculptra is an injectable treatment that is very effective in removing wrinkles from the areas around the mouth, chin, and nose. Creases on the upper lip and lines around the mouth can make you look older than your actual age. A Sculptra treatment can address such aging lines very effectively.

Sculptra can also restore volume under the eyes and in the cheeks. People can have sunken eyes due to aging or genetics, and this can make them appear constantly tired. Volume loss in the cheeks occurs due to aging or sudden weight loss and can lead to a gaunt look. Sculptra can also help if you have an unwanted chin indentation.

How does Sculptra accomplish these corrections so effectively? It’s all thanks to Sculptra’s key ingredient: poly-L-lactic acid.

What Is Poly-L-Lactic Acid?

Poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA, is a synthetic form of lactic acid made in a laboratory. Because of this, it contains no animal products. Lactic acid occurs in the body naturally, which makes PLLA compatible with the human body. Due to the biocompatible nature of PLLA, the risk of allergic reactions is extremely low.

PLLA works from deep inside the skin to make it healthier. Unlike other injectables, PLLA doesn’t fill wrinkles immediately when injected into the face. Instead, it works over a period of time by stimulating production of collagen in the body. This leads to results that look very natural.

Collagen is a protein that builds and holds the structure of the skin. Without adequate collagen, skin texture begins to break down and wrinkles begin to form. Volume loss also follows. When the skin develops more collagen, it becomes healthier. Wrinkles vanish as the skin starts to look smoother and more youthful.

Your Treatment – What to Expect

A Sculptra treatment begins with marking of the regions of the face that will receive the injections. Following this, local anesthesia or a topical numbing cream will be applied to these areas in order to ensure that the process is not painful or uncomfortable.

Once the areas have been properly numbed, the Sculptra is injected using a very thin needle. Typically, this procedure will only take less than a half an hour to complete.

After Your Sculptra Treatment

Results from your Sculptra treatment last for a long time. Once the initial session is over, the skin continues to show improvements over time. You can see results from the treatment for around two years. PLLA dissolves slowly and safely in the body.

The first treatment may require two to three sessions depending on the condition of the skin. You may need minimal maintenance sessions. Most people only require one maintenance session after the initial treatment.

Sculptra is a safe treatment. If you are pregnant or planning your pregnancy, it is important to tell this information to your doctor, as you may not be suitable for the treatment.

Kybella Injections Make a Double Chin Disappear

Sudden weight gain and genetic predispositions can lead to some unwelcome changes in our body. One of the most undesirable after-effects of weight gain is a double chin. A double chin is formed when a layer of fat is deposited just below the chin. It can affect a person’s overall appearance, along with their confidence.

Fortunately, one can easily get rid of this layer of fat through the use of Kybella injections. Kybella is a product composed of a substance known as deoxycholic acid in its synthetic form. Deoxycholic acid is the byproduct of the metabolism of intestinal bacteria. It is also a secondary bile juice and absorbs fat in the body.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella injections are administered to targeted areas using needles. The deoxycholic acid present in Kybella destroys the targeted fat cells. The fat cells are then assimilated by the body’s immune system.

Kybella is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure preferred by people who do not wish to undergo a more invasive procedure like liposuction. Kybella injections are a safer alternative with very little downtime.

The Kybella Injection Procedure

Before the procedure, your plastic surgeon will explain the nuances of the procedure to you as part of a consultation at our office. Make sure to discuss any previous history of drug allergies in order to rule out any potential complications.

During this consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine your chin and neck and then recommend the best course of corrective action for you. You will also be able to look at before-and-after photos.

At the start of your Kybella injection procedure, the targeted areas are numbed by applying a topical numbing agent. The Kybella injections are then administered into the targeted areas using multiple small injections.

Since Kybella injections consist of a substance that naturally occurs in the human body, the chances of an allergic reaction or rejection by the body’s immune system is very low.

Each treatment requires about twelve to twenty injections, and each treatment session is spaced a month apart. The number of treatment sessions needed varies from person to person and depends on the amount of fat that is to be removed. Generally, around six treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results.

After Your Injections

After treatment, a degree of swelling around the injection sites is normal and will fade within a few days. Results from your Kybella treatments can be observed within a period of four to six weeks. No touch-up treatments will be required, since the results of Kybella injections last for years.

Finding Out More About Kybella and Its Benefits

Do you want to get rid of your double chin once and for all? If so, Kybella may be the ideal treatment option for you. Contact our office to arrange an appointment for an informative Kybella consultation.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty Corrects the Nose While Maintaining a Natural Look

All of us are familiar with the concept of a nose job. Also known as rhinoplasty, this plastic surgery procedure is used to restructure and reshape the nose. But many people may not know the meaning of the term “ethnic rhinoplasty.”

What Is Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Unlike a normal rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty is used to restructure the nose based upon certain traits unique to an ethnic group. Ethnic rhinoplasty essentially applies to non-Caucasians. Ethic rhinoplasty uses different techniques based upon the different anatomies of ethnic groups.

People of Asian, African-American, Middle Eastern, and Hispanic descent are the best candidates for an ethnic rhinoplasty. The techniques used in ethic rhinoplasty vary from individual to individual. Based upon the characteristic traits, one person may need their nose to be smaller, while another person may require their nose to be narrower. Ethnic rhinoplasty is also used to correct anomalies in the nasal bridge.

Prior to Ethnic Rhinoplasty Surgery

Make sure to discuss your medical history with your surgeon and inform her of previous drug allergies in order to rule out any complications that may present themselves during the course of the surgery. In addition, you may be asked to refrain from smoking and taking painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin during the weeks leading up to the surgery.

It’s best to have realistic expectations and discuss them with your surgeon before your ethnic rhinoplasty procedure. She will modify the techniques to be used in the surgery accordingly. It may be also possible beforehand to view a 3D image of what your nose will look like after the procedure.

The surgery may take anywhere between an hour to three hours depending upon the extent of the surgery. Incisions are usually made inside the nose and are hardly visible. Bone, cartilage, and soft tissue will be altered as needed in order to achieve the desired changes. The surgeon may use a bandage or a splint to support the nose after the procedure.

After the Ethnic Rhinoplasty Procedure

Immediately after the ethnic rhinoplasty procedure, patients are likely to notice swelling and bruising in the treatment area. These are the normal side effects of the surgery and will subside in time.

It is advisable to refrain from activities that involve physical exertion or have a risk of direct impact on the nose. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics and painkillers, which are to be taken as prescribed.

A follow-up visit will be scheduled a week after the surgery and any bandages or splints will be removed then. Complete recovery may take anywhere between two weeks to a month depending upon the extent of the surgery. Results can be observed once swelling and bruising has subsided.

Finding the Right Surgeon

One of the key factors that help in getting best results from an ethnic rhinoplasty is the choice of the perfect surgeon. An ethnic rhinoplasty must be performed only under the supervision of a board-certified medical professional who specializes in the needs of one or more specific ethnic groups.

To find out whether or not ethnic rhinoplasty is right for you, contact the office of board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Anita Mandal and arrange a consultation. Dr. Mandal has years of experience and numerous satisfied patients and can answer any questions you may have.

Feeling Embarrassed About the Appearance of Your Ears?

Most of us are lucky enough to be born in good health and with everything in our body properly functioning. Our health is one of the most important factors and plays a major role in how we carry about our daily activities. Good health is important for our overall well-being.

Some people, when they are born however, are not as lucky. A large number of babies are born with certain defects that may have been correctable had they been discovered at a very early stage of infancy, when the bones and cartilage of our body were still soft and malleable. In most cases, parents fail to notice that anything is wrong with their infant and realize it only in the later stages of development, when treatment is inefficient.

One of the most common malformations in infants is ear deformities. This means an irregularity in the shape, position, or proportions of the ear. When discovered within the first four weeks of birth, such deformities can be easily correct using non-invasive procedures.

Once the stage has passed, it is not possible to correct such deformities using non-invasive procedures. The condition is still correctable by means of a cosmetic procedure called otoplasty, or ear surgery.

Otoplasty Surgery

Otoplasty is essentially a cosmetic surgery that is used to correct ear deformities that are present at birth or have developed as the result of an injury.

Ear surgery brings the ear to a more natural shape by correcting its proportions and shape. It can be used to correct abnormally large ears, mistakes that occurred in a previous ear surgery, protruding ears, and more.

The Procedure

Otoplasty is an invasive procedure. The patient is first anesthetized before the procedure in order to make the procedure more comfortable. You will be given a choice between local and general anesthesia. With local anesthesia, only the area where the surgery is being performed will be numbed, meaning you will be conscious during the procedure. With general anesthesia, you will be sedated for the entire procedure.

Once this is done, your surgeon will make incisions along the inner rim of your ear or on the back of your ear. Through this procedure, cartilage can be reduced in size or resculpted, thus giving a more natural shape to the ear.

The incisions are then carefully closed using sutures so as to not give the ear an unsightly or “pulled back” appearance. Suturing must be done very carefully and without distorting any other structures in the ear.

After the Surgery

Results are visible almost immediately after the surgery. Post-surgical marks from incisions are well hidden within the folds of the ear and are not visible.

Proper rest is recommended for faster recovery. During the recovery period, it is advisable to stay away from physically exerting yourself. Make sure to avoid activities that have a direct impact on your ear. Healing varies from person to person. Some people take longer than others to recover from the surgery. Generally, complete healing can take up to three weeks.
