Dysport Injections Restore Youthful Smoothness to Your Skin

Dysport is a medical product used to treat and reduce wrinkles. It is injected into specific areas on the face to smooth out the skin. The FDA approved the use of Dysport in 2009 as a viable temporary treatment for glabellar lines in adults below the age of 65.

Dysport has been often compared with BOTOX due to the many similarities that both treatments possess. For example, Dysport is also composed of Botulinum toxin type A, which is an ingredient that paralyzes wrinkle-causing muscles.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for the Dysport injection are those with frown lines that appear between the eyes and the forehead, also known as glabellar lines. Many other shallow lines can also be eliminated or reduced with these injections.

The following are conditions that make a person eligible for Dysport treatment:

• They must not be allergic to milk proteins found in cow’s milk.
• They should have no allergic reactions to the Botulinum toxin.
• They should not have any skin infections, especially on the area that is to be treated.
• They should be below the age of 65.

Patients with the following conditions should avoid Dysport injections:

• Myasthenia Gravis
• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease
• Asthma, emphysema, or any such breathing disorder
• Lambert-Eaton syndrome
• Swallowing problems
• Weakness of facial muscles, which can cause droopy eyelids or an inability to raise eyebrows
• Seizures
• Bleeding issues
• Diabetes
• Heart disease

Individuals who will be undergoing surgery in the near future must also avoid Dysport treatment. The same applies for anyone who has had other forms of Botulinum injections in the last four months.

The Injection Procedure

The procedure begins with the cleaning of the area that will receive the injections, which is done with an alcohol wipe. This is done to prevent an infection. A local anesthetic such as lidocaine may be given to numb the area. However, numbing is not necessary for most cases.

The doctor will then carefully and precisely inject the Dysport solution into the contracted muscles under the wrinkles in the skin.

After Your Injections

In most cases, the patient can return to their normal life almost immediately after injections of Dysport. They can even indulge in strenuous activities in less than a week. There may be a mild amount of temporary bruising, tenderness, redness, and swelling in the areas that have been treated.

Patients must ensure that the treated areas are not rubbed or placed against any surface for at least 12 hours, as this can cause the solution to migrate into other areas. The results become noticeable instantly, and complete changes can be noticed within a few days of the treatment.
