Time to Smooth Away Those Crow’s Feet!

As a person ages, their skin goes through a variety of changes. This process starts out slow and subtle, but if left unchecked, it can quickly result in a number of unfortunate signs of aging.

Certain parts of the face are more susceptible to aging signs than others. One such area is the eyes.

Little lines that spread out from the outer corners of your eyes are the result of overactive facial muscles and the aging process. These fine wrinkles are commonly known as crow’s feet.

Botox: A Proven Way to Fight Crow’s Feet

Botox has become extremely popular and is now the go-to treatment for fine facial wrinkles. This injectable is a muscle-relaxing treatment with many uses. It is regularly used to treat crow’s feet and many other age lines, and it can also be used to address eye twitching, excessive sweating, and migraines.

How It Works

Botox works by blocking nerve signals from reaching muscles so that they don’t contract as often. Because of this, overworked facial muscles can relax, which in turn allows the overlying skin to smooth out and the wrinkles to disappear.

Some people’s faces have moderate and deeper lines that exist even when their face is relaxed. While Botox can help to some extent, dermal fillers are a better option for these people.

The Treatment Process

Botox is a simple procedure that takes approximately 15 minutes. During treatment, injections are delivered precisely into the targeted muscles. No downtime is required afterwards, so patients can immediately return to their regular daily activities.

Some people worry about the pain of an injection. Botox injections are very small, so the discomfort is minimal. We can further reduce the pain by numbing the area with a cold pack 10 to 20 minutes before the injections are given. Anesthetic cream may also be used; once it has worn off, it is normal to feel a little temporary discomfort.

Results are seen one to two weeks after the procedure and can last for around three to four months. There are a couple of different factors that may shorten or lengthen the amount of time that Botox will work:

• Age (Older people usually notice results diminishing faster than people with younger, firmer facial muscles.)

• Facial structure and a person’s typical facial expressions

• Smoking

• Diet

• The amount of sun you get and how much damage the sun has already done to your skin

• Taking good care of your skin using facials, microdermabrasion, and other resurfacing methods

• Resistance (Some people develop a resistance to Botox over time and need more frequent treatments. This differs from person to person.)
