Your Nasal Tip Can Look Better Thanks to Rhinoplasty

One of the most prominent features of your face is your nose. Most of us won’t admit it, but when we look in the mirror, there’s always something we would want to change about our nose. Maybe it’s too big, too bulbous, too droopy, or has an embarrassing hump.

Whether it’s a major change or just a subtle tweak, many of us would welcome nasal enhancement of some kind. Today, the popularity of rhinoplasty has made it an attractive option for people around the world.

Adjusting the Nasal Tip

As we age, the cartilage in our body breaks down. Gravity acts on this weakened cartilage, causing our nose and ears (which are predominantly cartilage) to droop. This process can make a beautiful tip of the nose look less than beautiful over the years.

Some of the common complaints people have about their noses that can be corrected by rhinoplasty are:
• Bulbous tip
• Wide tip
• Lack of definition
• Sagging tip
• Asymmetrical tip
• Lack of tip projection

If you feel that any of these apply to your nose, rhinoplasty may be the solution for you.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure: What to Expect

Rhinoplasty allows the surgeon access to the underlying nasal structure and can dramatically improve the look of your nose. It can also help you breathe better. Focusing on revising the tip of one’s nose is typically a subtle procedure that can make a big difference.

The procedure begins with anesthesia to make the patient more comfortable. Once it has fully taken effect, incisions are created. For nasal-tip rhinoplasty, either open or closed rhinoplasty can be used.

During closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made within the nostrils instead of on the outside of the nose. This camouflages any post-surgical marks. It also means that the external skin of the nose will not need to be lifted.

During open rhinoplasty, the incisions are made on the columella, that area of skin between the nostrils. This allows for lifting of the skin of the nose, which in turn provides greater access to the underlying tissues and better visibility.

Once the incisions have been created, the nasal cartilages are altered as needed. In some cases, cartilage is removed, and in others, it is repositioned.

If the nasal tip is drooping or needs better definition, it may be necessary to strengthen it with the help of a graft. Grafts are sections of tissue harvested from other areas of the patient’s body like the ear or rib, and they are used to bolster sections of the nasal architecture.

When the procedure is complete, the incisions are closed with the help of medical stitches. Other dressings are often used as well in order to support the tissues.

The Recovery Process

Rhinoplasty focusing on the nasal tip doesn’t usually require a great deal of downtime. It will take a fair amount of time for the swelling to fully ameliorate, but the majority won’t last for too long.
