Question: I am 60 years old and have deep lines and sagging mainly over my jowl area. Can the Infini laser be used over this area of the face without my having treatment on the rest of my face and neck?
Answer: While Infini can be performed on smaller facial areas with some improvement, most patients over the age of 50 years typically have a full face and neck treatment for optimal results. The reason is simple. Aging does not just occur in isolated areas of the face. Rather, aging happens throughout our face and neck.
Infini can soften wrinkles and tighten sagging skin by stimulating your body’s own collagen production. Wrinkles in the jowl, cheek or neck areas are due, in large part, to a breakdown of collagen. However, since collagen loss causes both tissue laxity as well as wrinkles, both problems are interconnected, with one making the other appear even worse.
An example would be wrinkles of the cheek and jowl areas that deepen further with age as the skin, itself, begins to sag. In such cases, treating wrinkles in the superficial skin layers is not enough. One also needs to treat the deeper skin layers to tighten and lift tissue sag and further improve the appearance of wrinkles.
Another example is sagging of the neck just under the jawline, often due to loose facial skin that has fallen into the upper neck. Infini of the neck alone is not likely to correct the problem. Both the neck and face must be treated at the same time for optimal results.
