Question: The skin on my face has thinned out with age, making me look much older than I actually am. I want to get a facelift but am told that I may look overpulled because my skin is too thin. What treatments are available?
Answer: While lasers and prescription skin care products can improve wrinkles and poor skin texture problems that appear closer to the skin surface, injectable fillers such as Sculptra™ can more effectively thicken the deeper skin layers.
Sculptra stimulates the generation and migration of collagen to the area of treatment within four to six weeks of injection. Traditionally, Sculptra has been used for filling in facial hollows and grooves, with a duration of two years or longer.
When Sculptra is used to thicken the skin, it is placed just under the skin rather than in a hollow or a groove. Over time, the skin becomes thicker due to collagen buildup, resulting in a younger looking, more vibrant appearance.
Have you ever seen a mature person with wrinkle free skin, yet they still look aged, pale, ghastly or just like something is not quite right? Prescription skin care and laser resurfacing may give that smoother appearance to the skin surface. However, they don’t always thicken the deeper skin layers, which is what allows you to have that youthful glow.
When Sculptra, which thickens the deep skin layers, is used in combination with skin resurfacing treatments, the results can be greatly enhanced. Even if you have a facelift, its youthful effect may not be visible unless your aging skin is addressed properly.
To best determine your facial rejuvenation needs, thorough consultation with your Facial Plastic Surgeon is the first step.
