Juvederm Injections to Reduce Facial Aging

Fine lines and wrinkles on the face are the first visible signs of aging and can cause distress to many, often leading to a decrease in self-esteem and confidence. Before the effects of aging on our skin get out of hand, it is best to try and remedy them by eating healthy and exercising regularly. However, our skin’s loss of elasticity and decrease in natural production of collagen cannot be held off for long before the inevitable happens. In order to rejuvenate our facial appearance, many of us get dermal filler treatment.

Fillers are a safe and convenient solution. Juvederm is a popular dermal filler that can be used for treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines, scar correction, contouring, and lip enhancement.

What Is Juvederm and How Does It Work?

Juvederm is a filler made of hyaluronic acid, which enhances the elasticity of the skin and adds volume to it, giving you more youthful-looking skin. Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in our body, so you do not have to undergo any kind of allergy testing method, since the substance is non-allergenic. It is highly biocompatible and made through biosynthesis.

Aging leads to decreased levels of moisture and nutrients being delivered to the skin. This is corrected by the hyaluronic acid, which acts as a delivery system, keeping the skin healthy and well-nourished.

The Juvederm Procedure and Results

Before an appointment for a Juvederm treatment, patients are advised to stop taking any sort of anti-inflammatory medicine or blood-thinning medication like aspirin for at least a few days before the procedure.

When you come in for the treatment, the surgeon will typically first apply some topical anesthetic on the area that is to be treated. The Juvederm gel is then injected into the mid to deep dermal layers of the skin, depending on how much correction is required in that area. There may be some discomfort during the injection, but Juvederm’s smooth gel consistency makes it easier to be injected than other types of dermal fillers.

After the procedure, you should avoid rigorous exercise, intense heat and sunlight, and alcohol consumption for at least a day. There may be slight swelling and discomfort in the treatment, but that is normal and should subside within a few hours.

The results of Juvederm injections are immediately visible and should last for a number of months. Since it provides temporary effects, repeat procedures will be required after the initial treatment, albeit with smaller quantities of the gel.

Light, Medium, and Deep Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a treatment with an acidic solution designed to remove one or more damaged layers of the skin. Typically, it is used to enhance and smooth out the texture of rough skin. It is an excellent treatment option for wrinkles, facial blemishes, and uneven pigmentation of the skin. A peel exfoliates skin layers and reveals fresh layers with better texture, tone, and color.

Good Candidates

Patients with light hair and fair skin are the best candidates for this treatment. However, patients with other hair color and skin pigmentation can achieve a good result as well. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your skin due to acne, wrinkles, bad texture, age spots, or sun damage, then you are an ideal candidate for this treatment.

Light Chemical Peels

Light peels are used in the treatment of dryness, fine wrinkling, acne, and uneven pigmentation. The solution usually comprises of alphahydroxy acids like lactic, glycolic, fruit, or salicylic acids. Light peels are ideal for people who want the benefits of a facial peel but don’t want to spend the time needed to recover from deeper peels.

Medium Chemical Peels

Most of the doctors use trichloroacetic acid for medium peels. This chemical is very effective at treating superficial blemishes, surface wrinkles, and other pigmentation problems. Just like light peels, they require very little downtime. This is usually the preferred peel treatment for patients with darker skin tones.

Deep Chemical Peels

These peels are the strongest option. Phenol acid is the chemical that is most commonly used for deep facial peels. This is used in the treatment of coarse wrinkles, pre-cancerous skin growths, and blotches caused by sun exposure or aging. While a deep peel usually produces the longest-lasting and most dramatic effect, it takes much longer and needs more healing time. A deep peel can also potentially cause permanent lightening of the patient’s skin, so prospective patients must consult with a cosmetic dermatologist before they undergo the procedure.

Are There Any Side Effects?

If the procedure is performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon, it is completely safe. A possible side effect with light and medium peels is a slight stinging that usually subsides within a day. Deep peels might have more pronounced side effects, but they too will subside in a few days.

Can a Peel Be Used in Areas Other Than the Face?

Though deep peels can be used only on the face, light and medium peels can be used on other body parts as well. Typically, the solution is a bit stronger than the one used for a facial peel, but it is still milder than the phenol solution that is used for deep peels. Chemical peels are often used to minimize the stretch marks on the body after weight loss and pregnancy.

Minimally Invasive Perlane Injections

Modern cosmetology is gradually introducing a number of minimally invasive procedures for clients and one of them is Perlane dermal fillers. Minimally invasive Perlane injections have proven to be very effective in reducing facial wrinkles. These include lip wrinkles, smile lines, and scars, as well as nasolabial folds. All these contribute to making your face look old and ragged.

What Is a Perlane Injection and What Does It Do?

Perlane is actually quite similar to Restylane in the sense that both of them are made up of non-animal hyaluronic acid. This is a natural sugar compound which usually gets depleted as you age.

Perlane is injected into your skin by your facial plastic surgeon using an extremely fine needle. This needle penetrates deep into your skin, and the substance is transported to areas close to your nose and mouth. It helps in filling up wrinkles, deep creases, and scars, as well as boosting facial volume. The treatment is quite short and takes less than an hour. In fact, you could even get it done during your lunch break at the office!

There is no denying the fact that dermal fillers are extremely effective for facial rejuvenation. They offer temporary results which might last from four to eight months. Some patients also combine Perlane with certain other minimally invasive cosmetic treatments such as Dysport or Botox to achieve more long-lasting results.

Perlane Benefits

• Helps in skin smoothening and filling up of deep wrinkles around the nose and mouth areas
• Helps in treating nasolabial folds
• Lends greater volume and plumpness to your lips

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Perlane Injections?

The Perlane dermal filler treatment is an absolutely natural anti-aging treatment used for enhancing the appearance of your face. It is suitable for those who are looking to minimize the unattractive folds, lines, and wrinkles which have developed on their face with continued aging. Individuals who wish to add more volume to their lips and/or cheeks can also opt for minimally invasive Perlane injection treatments.

The risk of experiencing allergic reactions is actually reduced by the natural substance present in Perlane. Therefore, most people make for good candidates for this treatment.

Safe and Quick

As mentioned earlier, the administration of Perlane is done via injections (with a very fine needle). Your facial plastic surgeon might provide a local anesthetic for minimizing any discomfort experienced during the procedure. It is important to know that the needle used for Perlane administration is so fine that it can easily be tolerated by almost all patients.

You don’t need to set aside a lot of time for this treatment, since it takes about 35 to 40 minutes to complete it. This makes it a highly convenient option for those who have extremely busy daily schedules.

After the Perlane treatment, you might experience minor swelling or/and redness in the injected areas. This is quite normal. Your facial plastic surgeon will provide you with an OTC pain medication or suggest use of a cold compress to ease any discomfort or swelling.
