Kybella Palm Beach Gardens

Kybella For “Double Chin”

Kybella fat reduction is permanent. Once these fat cells are destroyed, those fat cells do not grow back over time.

Kybella consists of deoxycholic acid, a product which is bio-identical to what we have in our own bodies. When Kybella is injected into fat tissue, it works by bursting the fat cells which are then flushed out by your body over time, using natural body processes.

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable used for the treatment of submental fat or “double-chin”. It has been used successfully, off-label, for fatty jowls and other fat pockets around the face as well on body fat. Kybella is also being used to fine-tune and feather the edges of the results of liposuction and CoolSculpt.

Unlike neck liposuction which can leave an older patient with loose neck skin, Kybella appears to give some skin tightening over the area of dissolved fat and may be less likely to leave you with looser skin.

Who Is a Good Candidate For Kybella?

Patients with “double-chin” can be grouped into mild, moderate and severe categories. Kybella treatments range from 1 to 3 sessions, each session typically being 4-6 weeks apart. Each patient is different so the number of treatment sessions you need depends on the severity of submental neck fat.

A thorough consultation with a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon is the first step.

What To Expect During The Consultation

During your consultation for Kybella treatments, I will examine the areas that will be treated. I will also ask you about your medical history, any other treatments or procedures you may have had, and your overall health. It is important to disclose any medications you are currently taking as well.

After your thorough consultation, you will be able to set up an appointment to get your Kybella treatment.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is injected into the targeted areas with a fine microneedle. The amount of injections administered will depend on the amount of fat tissue you have in the targeted areas. Typically, Kybella injections take about fifteen to twenty minutes to administer.

Kybella is also used in my office in combination with skin tightening devices such as Infini RF and Ultherapy in those patients with significantly looser neck skin. Kybella works to dissolve fat under the chin, where the Infini RF works to tighten the overall neck skin.

The Kybella/Infini combo can give markedly enhanced results in the neck as well as in other parts of the face.

Kybella and Other Treatments

Kybella is also used in combination with Botox for those patients who also have vertical neck muscle bands. When Kybella is used for neck fat, these platysmal bands, if present, can diminish the visibility of the results from Kybella. Fortunately, this can be a simple fix by using Botox to soften the platysmal bands and enhance the results of Kybella permanent fat reduction.

If you are interested in combining other treatments with your Kybella injections, be sure to ask about other treatments during your consultation.

Aftercare and Results

The first week after Kybella treatment, swelling in the treated area is typically above baseline. One week following Kybella treatment, swelling is typically below baseline. You may also have some bruising or numbness in the treated areas. These minor side effects are temporary and will likely go away shortly after your Kybella injections.

Since Kybella works over time, repeat sessions should not be done sooner than 4 weeks, to give the fat cells a chance to dissolve and be flushed out of the treated area. The amount of repeat treatments you receive will depend on the amount of fatty tissue you have in the targeted areas. Typically, you will not recieve more than six treatments total.

The cost of Kybella and other procedures depends on the amount of product that is administered during your treatment. If you have any questions about the cost of Kybella, be sure to ask during your consultation.
